There was a live bug today (now fixed) which allowed any authors on a blog to block any commenters on that blog. This is an admin only tool, and has now been restored to an admin only tool. However, if any of you were blocked (your comments will not show up on oppo) today by another commenter please let me or any of the mods know.

What made this especially fun was that you could block someone, but not unblock them (as that role remained with admins).

To be clear, this is different from the bug which currently exists that makes it so that it is difficult to reply, if you are having issues replying, try clearing your cache and see if right clicking on the discuss and opening a new window brings up the mobile editor. If you can comment this way, then you aren't blocked. Then you will need to clear your cache entirely and try again.

Can we just roll back to the old kinja? I mean it is clear new Tiger isn't ready. Once the other main sites figure out the bugs, by all means roll it out, but for now I'd like to use something not borked to hell.

We are "stuck" with it, however, every iteration of gawkers commenting system from pre-Kinja to the last version was met with cries of doom and gloom and issues with the system. And then they resolved the issues and we all loved the interface (or came to be forced to love it a la Stockholm syndrome).

It's all part of the great big circle of Kinja.

Yea, except it takes months to get it right because the IT teams doesn't know how to test a system in a sandbox. We all suffer because of this.

Well, to be fair, it wasn't thrust upon us as our only option until today, and that there are some hiccups today should be no surprise as this is essentially the full rollout without the previous infrastructure also being there. So any conflicts may not have been seen until today.

Not arguing. But having been here for four years+, they do some initial beta testing to make sure it actually doesn't crash, and then they do limited roll outs and we are the beta testers. (I work in software, directly with QA and support, I understand your frustration)

No I know. I too used to work in software development with a group; now I just do app's on my own for fun. I think they need a new methodology. Maybe adopt the industry standard of not using your target users as beta testers and had people voluntarily sign up for beta.

That was very likely one of Ernie's many tests. There are only a handful of authors on GBT and nearly all of them are gawker tech folks.

May have been removed when he announced he was leaving. We've done it in the past to make sure that problems don't arise. I've re-added him, let me know if there are any issues.

Niccolo said it was one of the mods because Ern confirmed it's not a bug. I suggest you talk to them. Niccolo checked and Atte is good to go, at least for now. Atte is expected to return tomorrow. Have a nice day.
